Gartenparadies Sussex
In Mid Sussex, nur einen Katzensprung von der Autobahn M23 und Gatwick entfernt, sind einige der schönsten Gärten Englands zu finden. Die Anlagen Wakehurst Place, Leonardslee, Nymans, High Beeches und Borde Hill sind echte Highlights und machen diese Gegend zum Traumziel für Hobbybotaniker.
In den Gärten im so genannten High Weald, einem Gebiet von außerordentlicher landschaftlicher Schönheit, zeigen sich die bedeutendsten Bäume und Sträucher des Landes von ihrer prächtigsten Seite. Mit ihren Pflanzensammlungen von nationalem Stellenwert, preisgekrönten Blüten und dem weitläufigen, herrlichen Ambiente lässt die Region die Herzen von Gartenfreunden zweifellos höher schlagen.
Eine jede Gartenanlage hat etwas ganz Besonderes zu bieten, sei es die seltene Wildblumenwiese von High Beeches oder das überwältigende Haus von Nymans, die „Rekordbäume" von Borde Hill, die Millennium Pflanzensamenbank von Wakehurst oder die Miniaturausstellung „Beyond the Dolls House" („Jenseits des Puppenhauses") von Leonardslee, die einen Einblick in Leben und Arbeit auf einem englischen Landgut vermittelt.
Die großartigen Gärten tun sich 2008 zu einer „Maigala chinesischer Pflanzen" zusammen, einer Schau interessanter, ausgefallener Bäume und Sträucher aus China. Im Jahr der Olympiade in Peking bietet diese Veranstaltung Anlass, die faszinierenden fremden Pflanzen zu präsentieren, die in diesen grandiosen Gärten für Farbenpracht sorgen.
Die Aktion „Great Gardens of Sussex" („Gartenparadies Sussex") wird vom Gemeinderat von Mid Sussex unterstützt.
